SEEDS
The Department of Science and Humanities launched its own students association, SEEDS. The association was inaugurated on 13th February 2014 at the hands of Mr. Pravin Sabnis.
SEEDS 2023-24 Report
The Inaugural ceremony of the First-Year Student Association, SEEDS, by Department of Science and Humanities, was held on September 30, 2023. The theme for the year 2023-2024 is “Engineering a Sustainable Future”. The Chief Guest for the event was Sustainability Champion, Founder/Director of Track Change LLP Goa, Mr. Abhinav D. Apte. Joining Mr. Apte on the dais were dignitaries, Director DBCE, Rev. Fr. Kinley D’Cruz, Registrar, Dr. Kala R. Nayak, SEEDS Coordinators, Ms. Vaishali Parakhi and Ms. Carol Cardozo, SEEDS Chairperson, Mr. Reeve Fernandes. The ceremony began with a Prayer Song. A compilation of the participant-photos and winning photos of the Photography Competition on Millets was displayed, alongside a first-look to all the websites created for the Web-Craft Competition and the winning-video for the Recap-Video Competition.
This was followed by nurturing of the celebratory plant by the dignitaries. Ms. Esther Ann Mascarenhas, SEEDS Member, introduced the Chief Guest for the day. Dr. Kala Nayak, delivered the Principal’s Message in her absence. In her message, Dr. Neena Panandikar, emphasized the role of engineers in integrating “sustainable practices into the design, operation, and maintenance of engineering projects.” This was followed by the Director’s message on Sustainability being the “need of the hour.”
The installation of the new council consisting of Chairperson – Mr. Reeve Fernandes, Secretary – Mr. Kshitij Patil, Treasurer – Ms. Suzette Rodrigues. Executive Member Mechanical – Mr. Mazen Leitao, Executive Member Civil – Mr. Pratik Desai, Executive Member ECS – Ms. Esther Ann Mascarenhas, Executive Member Computer I – Ms. Gretchen Pereira, Executive Member Computer II – Mr. Sandeep Sawant, was done by pinning of the badges from the Old Council. The Council Oath was Administered by Dr. Kala Nayak, who also felicitated the Outgoing Council. Distribution of Certificates and Appreciation letters ensued after. Mr. Reeve Fernandes, SEEDS Chairperson, delivered the plan for the academic term of 2023-24 of SEEDS, in which he listed the Council’s forthcoming event-plans. The formal ceremony ended with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Secretary, Mr. Kshitij Patil.
The formal ceremony was followed by a talk on Sustainable Engineering by the Chief Guest, in which he focused on the 7th UN Goal of Sustainability: Ensuring access to clean and affordable energy. The day then saw then commencement of many on-stage and off-stage events such as Tableau, Open Mic, Relay-Quiz, Stone-Painting, Treasure-Hunt, Big-Picture, all centered around the theme.
